SC man involved in crash dies after medical emergency, coroner says. Here’s what happened
A South Carolina man suffered a medical emergency Monday following a crash and died at a hospital, according to the Oconee County Coroner’s Office.
Dennis Jeffery Green, a 71-year-old Seneca resident, died from the injuries he suffered in what the coroner’s office called an accident.
Green sustained cardiac arrest at the scene, then was taken to the emergency department at Oconee Memorial Hospital before being moved to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he died at 12:25 p.m., the coroner’s office said.
The two-vehicle collision happened at about 7:20 a.m., at the intersection of Wells Highway and Singing Pines Road, said Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Green was driving a 2018 Nissan SUV south on Singing Pines Road, according to Ridgeway. A 2016 Jaguar sedan was driving north on Singing Pines Road and disregarded a stop sign at the intersection with Wells Highway, and the vehicles collided as the SUV was turning left onto Wells Highway, Ridgeway said.
Ridgeway said the Jaguar driver was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.
There was no word if either Green or the Jaguar driver was wearing a seat belt, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through Nov. 3, at least 817 people have died on South Carolina roads in 2024, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,030 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 13 people have died in Oconee County crashes in 2024, according to DPS data.
