Man driving car killed in crash with SUV on Midlands road, South Carolina officials say
One person was killed Saturday when a car and an SUV crashed on a Midlands road, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Shedrick Calloway Jr., a 28-year-old Orangeburg resident, died in what Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle called an accident.
The collision happened at about 5:30 p.m. in Orangeburg County, said Lance Cpl. Lena Butler of the Highway Patrol.
Calloway was driving a 2013 Honda Accord east on U.S. 178, according to Butler. Near the intersection with Kennerly Road the Honda collided with a 1997 Ford Expedition that was driving west on U.S. 178, Butler said.
Calloway suffered blunt force injuries in the crash and died at the scene, according to Fogle.
Butler said the Ford driver, who was the only person in the SUV, was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.
There was no word if either of the drivers were wearing seat belts.
Information about what caused the vehicles to collide was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
