A busy road in Columbia will be temporarily closed as part of a roadwork project, according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

A section of Hardscrabble Road at the intersection with Clemson Road will be blocked to traffic after dark for three nights this week, SCDOT said Monday in a news release. That’s in a part of Richland County that’s densely packed with retail businesses and restaurants, about 3 miles from Exit 22 on Interstate 77.

The closure for the Hardscrabble Road Widening Project will begin Tuesday at 7 p.m., according to the release. The road will reopen at 6 a.m. the following morning, SCDOT said.

The closure is scheduled to occur during the same times for three consecutive nights, with work expected to be completed by 6 a.m. Friday, according to the release.

There was no word if weather could delay the process. There’s currently a 70-80% chance of rain in Columbia on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, the forecast shows.

As part of the closure, a detour will be set up to divert drivers away by using Clemson Road, Longtown Road and Lee Road, SCDOT said.
