Girl in critical condition after serious crash in Columbia, SC police say

A child was among the people who was taken to a South Carolina hospital Tuesday morning following a multi-vehicle crash, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Officers responded to the “serious” two-vehicle collision just before 8 a.m., police said. The wreck was near the junction of Interstate 20 and Spears Creek Church Road, according to police. That’s Exit 82 on I-20, near Fort Jackson National Cemetery.

The child was one of the passengers who was hospitalized, police said. The girl is in critical condition, according to police.

No one else received serious injuries, police said. Further information on the victims’ conditions was not available.

There was no word if the drivers were injured, or if anyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt.

The girl and a relative were in a vehicle that was driving south when they were struck by another vehicle heading north, police said. Investigators believe the driver failed to yield the right of way, according to police.

The crash continues to be investigated by the police.
