South Carolina man and his daughter killed in crash between car and truck, officials say
A man and his adult daughter were killed in a recent crash that left another person injured, according to South Carolina officials.
The two-vehicle collision happened Friday night in Darlington County, said Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
At about 6:20 p.m., a 2024 Ford F-650 pickup truck was driving east on S.C. 151, while a 2022 Nissan Sentra was heading north on Bethel Road, according to Glover. At the intersection of the two roads the pickup collided with the car, Glover said. That’s about 7 miles from Darlington Raceway.
There were two people in the Nissan, and both died, according to Glover.
The Darlington County Coroner’s Office said that Hartsville residents Ronnie Gilbert, 59, and Ronnisha Gilbert, 27, died at the scene, WMBF reported. The coroner said the Gilberts were father and daughter, WBTW reported.
Glover said the Ford driver, who was the only person in the pickup, was taken to an area hospital. Further information on the Ford driver’s condition was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if any of the people involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.
Information about what caused the vehicles to collide at the intersection was not available. Glover did not say if the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
