A South Carolina motorist is dead after striking two objects on opposite sides of a highway in Bamberg County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

At around 5 a.m. Saturday, the driver of a 2010 Hyundai Accent, while traveling west, ran off the right side of U.S. Highway 78 before recrossing the highway and hitting a tree on the left side of the road, the highway patrol said.

The driver was the only occupant in the car and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver’s identity has not yet been released by the Bamberg County Coroner’s Office.
