Two drivers killed when cars crashed on South Carolina road, cops say
Two people were killed Thursday morning in a crash, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The two-vehicle collision happened at about 5:50 a.m. in Spartanburg County, said Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway.
A 2018 Honda sedan was driving west on S.C. 290, according to Ridgeway. Near the intersection with Anderson Mill Road, the Honda was hit on the driver’s side by a 2017 Nissan sedan that came from a private driveway and was turning onto S.C. 290, Ridgeway said.
The drivers of both cars died at the scene, according to Ridgeway.
The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the victims.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if either of the drivers was wearing a seat belt, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through Sunday, 122 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 12 people have died in Spartanburg County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 60 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
