South Carolina woman killed in crash that left another person hospitalized, officials say

One person was killed and another was injured in a crash on a Kershaw County road Friday afternoon, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Maria Manzano, a 26-year-old Elgin resident, is the driver who died in what Kershaw County Coroner David West called an accident.

The collision happened at about 1:55 p.m. and involved two vehicles, including a 2014 Toyota sedan and a 2024 Nissan sedan, Master Trooper William Bennett said Friday.

The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota was traveling north on Smyrna Road before being hit by the driver of the Nissan who was heading west on Wildwood Lane and turning onto Smyrna Road.

The driver of the Nissan was the only person in the car.

The person operating the Toyota died from their injuries.

The driver of the Nissan was injured and transported to an area hospital.

The crash remains under investigation, according to Bennett.
