One person was killed in a late night collision on a major highway, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said Saturday morning.

A pedestrian died after being hit at about 10:05 p.m. Friday while walking across U.S. Hwy 176 near Old Petrie Road, Master Trooper Brandon Bolt said.

A 2014 Honda sedan, while traveling east on U.S. Hwy 176, struck the pedestrian as they attempted to cross the highway.

There were two people in the Honda and neither were injured, according to Bolt.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene. Their identity has not yet been released by the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation, Bolt said.
