Driver killed when vehicle hits ditch and flips over, South Carolina cops say
One person was killed Sunday when a motorcycle ran off a road and crashed, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 10:30 a.m. in Darlington County, said Master Trooper William Bennett.
A 2015 Harley-Davidson was driving west on Flinns Road, according to Bennett. Near the intersection with Calvary Road the motorcycle ran off the right side of Flinns Road then hit a ditch and flipped over, Bennett said.
The driver, who was the only person on the Harley-Davidson, died at the scene, according to Bennett.
The Darlington County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the motorcycle rider.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if the motorcycle rider was wearing a helmet.
Information about what caused the Harley-Davidson to veer off the road was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through April 20, at least 234 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 12 people have died in Darlington County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 20 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
