Motorcyclist dies after running into a downed power line, SC Highway Patrol says

One person is dead after running into a downed utility line, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol and Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

A motorcyclist, operating a 2004 Harley Davidson, was traveling south on Edgefield Road before colliding with a power line from a downed traffic light on Friday around 10:45 p.m., according to a news release. The collision ejected the driver into the roadway at the intersection of Edgefield and Sweetwater roads in Aiken County.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead on the scene around 11:10 p.m., according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.

The deceased, identified as Jammy Weaver, 53, will be autopsied next week in Newberry, a news release said.

The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.
