Crash involving dump truck leaves 1 dead, SC Highway Patrol says

A trucker is dead after swerving over a Florence County road, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, a 2020 Freightliner dump truck was traveling east on Hyman Road near South Spencer Road, three miles west of the Town of Pamplico, before running off the road to the right, then to the left and back again to the right, a news release stated.

When the truck veered to the right the second time, it struck a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

The driver, whose identity has not yet been released by the Florence County Coroner’s Office, was the only person in the truck. No other injuries were reported.

The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
