The crash occurred shortly after midnight Saturday, when the driver of a 2009 Nissan sedan, carrying a passenger, was traveling west on Martins Lake Road near S.C. 92, Master Trooper Brandon Bolt of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.
The vehicle veered off the right side of the road before striking a ditch and a tree, causing it to overturn, a news release said. The passenger died from the accident while the driver was transported to an area hospital.
The deceased has not yet been identified by the Laurens County Coroner’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the release said.
