Early morning crash leaves 1 dead in Orangeburg County, troopers say

A single-car crash in Orangeburg County claimed the life of one person Saturday, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 1:40 a.m. on U.S. 301 near Lachance Drive, where a motorist driving a 2004 Chevrolet SUV was traveling north before running off the road to the right and striking a tree, the highway patrol said.

The SUV overturned, leaving the driver, who was the sole occupant, dead on scene.

The identify of the deceased has not yet been released by the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office.

The collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
