One person is dead and another injured after colliding head-on on 1-20 early Saturday, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

At around 3:20 a.m., the driver of a 2020 Kia Rio was traveling east in the westbound lane on I-20 near mile marker 72, troopers said. That’s near Farrow Road and approximately one mile east of Columbia. The Kia collided with the driver of a 2020 Chevrolet Impala that was heading west on the interstate.

Each driver was traveling alone and both were transported to an area hospital after sustaining injuries from the crash.

The driver of the Kia was later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the highway patrol, and has not yet been identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office.
