Florida woman killed in wrong-way crash on I-95 in South Carolina, coroner says
A Florida woman was killed in a recent crash on a stretch of Interstate 95 in South Carolina, according to the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office.
Linda Ross, a 70-year-old Orlando resident, died in what Coroner Sean Fogle called an accident.
The two-vehicle collision happened at about 10:55 a.m. in the Santee area of Orangeburg County, said Cpl. Nick Pye of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Ross was a passenger in a 2016 Honda SUV that was driving north on I-95, said Pye. At the 95 mile marker, the SUV collided with a Ford pickup truck that was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-95, according to Pye.
Ross suffered blunt force injuries and died, Fogle said.
Both the driver of the SUV and the pickup were injured and taken to an area hospital, according to Pye. Further information on the drivers’ conditions was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if any of the people involved in the wreck were wearing seat belts.
Information about why the pickup was driving the wrong way on I-95 toward oncoming traffic was not available, but the crash is being investigated by the Highway Patrol.
