SC county sheriff’s captain killed in motorcycle collision. Here’s what we know.
A Spartanburg County sheriff’s department captain was killed in a collision while riding a motorcycle Thursday evening.
Capt. Steven Henderson, 49, of Duncan, died after a head-on collision involving his motorcycle and another vehicle, according to a release from the Oconee County Coroner’s Office.
Henderson had been wearing a helmet. He died at the scene, according to the release.
The accident occurred north of Walhalla on Highway 183. Oconee 911 Communications were notified of the crash around 8:15 p.m. The collision is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, according to the coroner’s office news release.
Henderson had worked in the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office for 19 years, according to a social media post from the department. For the bulk of his career, he worked in the office’s K-9 unit. He also served in the U.S. Air Force before working in law enforcement, the post said.
“Captain Henderson spent a significant portion of his life serving the citizens of Spartanburg County in various roles throughout our agency,” the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office wrote in the social media post.
