One person is dead following an early morning crash Saturday in Georgetown County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The collision, which occurred around 7:42 a.m. on U.S. 17 near Petigru Drive, involved a 2020 Ford SUV, 2024 Honda motorcycle and a 2024 Kia hatchback, said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The operator of the Ford was traveling north on U.S. 17, the motorcyclist was heading south and the Kia was stopped at a traffic light on Petigru Drive.

The Ford and motorcycle collided, causing the Ford to crash into the Kia, Bolt said.

Each vehicle was carrying one person and the drivers of the Ford and Kia were not injured, according to a news release.

The motorcyclist, however, was transported to an area hospital and later died from their injuries. The deceased has not yet been identified by the Georgetown Coroner’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
