One driver killed and another injured in head-on crash, South Carolina cops say
One driver was killed and another was injured in a Monday night crash on a road in Columbia, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The two-vehicle collision happened at about 8:45 p.m. in Richland County, Cpl. David Jones said Tuesday.
A 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer was driving north on Farrow Road when it crossed a median and the SUV collided head-on with a 2011 Toyota four-door vehicle that was heading south, according to Jones.
The Chevy driver died at the scene, Jones said.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the Chevy driver.
The Toyota driver was hurt and taken to an area hospital, according to Jones. Further information on the Toyota driver’s condition was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
There was no word if either of the drivers were wearing a seat belt.
Information about what caused the Chevy to veer into oncoming traffic was not available, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through Sunday, 607 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.
At least 30 people have died in Richland County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 52 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
