Lexington County woman dies in crash with SUV, South Carolina officials say

A pedestrian died Friday after being hit by a car in Lexington County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Tonya Mayers Bowers, a 59-year-old Chapin resident, is the pedestrian who died in what Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher called an accident.

The crash occurred around 9:35 p.m. on Mountain Drive near Chapin Road, where a 2023 Kia SUV was driving east, according to the Highway Patrol. The Kia struck the pedestrian in the roadway, the Highway Patrol said.

Bowers died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office .

The Kia driver was not injured, the Highway Patrol said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.
