Driver killed in crash with multiple vehicles on South Carolina road, cops say

One person was killed in a Saturday night crash on a Midlands road, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Ondra Easterling, a 29-year-old Orangeburg resident, died in what Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle called an accident.

A three-vehicle collision happened at about 6:45 p.m. in Orangeburg County, said Master Trooper Hannah Davidson of the Highway Patrol.

Easterling was driving a 2009 BMW west on S.C. 4 when it collided with an eastbound 2011 Volvo SUV that was turning into a private driveway, according to Davidson. The BMW was then hit by a 2025 Ford box truck that also was driving east on S.C. 4, Davidson said.

Easterling suffered blunt force injuries and died at the scene, according to Fogle.

There was no word if either of the other drivers were hurt, but no other injuries were reported.

Additionally, there was no word if anyone involved in the wreck was wearing a seat belt, but the crash continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Through Oct. 4, at least 687 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least 25 people have died in Orangeburg County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 46 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
