Woman killed in nighttime hit-and-run crash on SC road, officials say

One person was killed Saturday night in a hit-and-run crash on a Midlands road, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

After initially being unable to identify the victim, the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office announced Monday that the “Jane Doe” was 46-year-old Lugoff resident Stacey Shavone Anderson.

The collision happened at about 9:40 p.m. in Kershaw County, said Master Trooper Hannah Davidson of the Highway Patrol.

Anderson was walking in the road near the intersection of U.S. 601 and Porter Cross Road, according to Davidson. That’s in the Lugoff area of Kershaw County.

She was hit by an unknown vehicle that was driving north on U.S. 601, Davidson said.

The driver did not stop and left the scene, according to Davidson.

The pedestrian first was taken to MUSC-Kershaw Health and later moved to Prisma Health Richland hospital where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, Coroner David West said.

No other injuries were reported in the collision that continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol, as well as the coroner’s office and the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone with information about the collision, or the vehicle and driver involved, is asked to call the Highway Patrol at 803-896-9621 or 800-768-1503, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip. Tips can also be texted to *HP.
