Driver killed when pickup truck runs off SC road and crashes, cops say

One person was killed Sunday when a pickup truck crashed, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The single-vehicle collision happened at about 4:45 p.m. in Clarendon County, said Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover.

A 2003 Ford F-150 was driving east on Salem Road, according to Glover. Near the intersection with Burnt Branch Road the pickup ran off the right side of the road, Glover said.

The pickup then swerved back onto Salem Road before continuing off the left side where it crashed into a ditch, according to Glover.

The driver, who was the only person in the pickup, died at the scene, Glover said.

The Clarendon County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the driver.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no word if the driver was wearing a seat belt.

Information about what originally caused the pickup to veer off the road was not available, and Glover did not say if the crash remains under investigation.

Through Nov. 9, at least 753 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least seven people have died in Clarendon County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were nine deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
