Repairs at railroad crossing will close entrance to neighborhood, disrupt traffic

Southern Commercial Development

A railroad crossing over a neighborhood entrance could cause disruption for residents next week.

The crossing on Pebble Gate Road in Irmo will be closed for repairs on Dec. 1, meaning drivers heading into and out of the Quail Valley neighborhood will need to find alternate routes, according to a press release Monday from Southern Commercial Development, which is handling traffic control for CSX during the repairs.

Pebble Gate links Quail Valley residents to St. Andrews Road, just north of CrossRoads Intermediate School and St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. The next closest entrance to Quail Valley is at Doe Trail less than a half-mile to the south.

The closure will last from 8:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, until 6 a.m. the following day, although weather or other conditions could cause a delay, the media release said.

Signs will direct traffic to a detour route during the closure.
