Woman killed in weekend crash on South Carolina road, coroner says
A woman died Saturday following a crash on a South Carolina road, according to the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office.
Emoni Nicole Chaplin, a 27-year-old Orangeburg resident, is the person who died, Coroner Sean Fogle said in a news release.
The deadly collision happened on John C. Calhoun Drive, according to the release. Information about an exact location and time of the crash was not available, but John C. Calhoun Drive is in a part of Orangeburg between South Carolina State University and Orangeburg Municipal Airport.
Chaplin was a pedestrian who was involved in a wreck with a vehicle, the coroner’s office said. Chaplin died at the scene, according to the release.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about the collision was not available, but the coroner’s office said it’s continuing to investigate both Chaplin’s cause and manner of death.
Through Dec. 28, 2025, at least 879 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety.
At least 29 people died in Orangeburg County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data.
