Driver killed when pickup crashes into tractor trailer on SC road, cops say
One person was killed Wednesday when a pickup truck was involved in a crash with a tractor trailer, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The collision happened at about 6:20 a.m. in Greenville County, said Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway.
A 2012 Ford pickup was driving south on White Horse Road, according to Ridgeway. Near the intersection with Whitmire Drive the pickup hit a 2022 Volvo tractor trailer that was backing into a private driveway, Ridgeway said.
The pickup driver died at the scene, according to Ridgeway.
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the pickup driver.
Ridgeway said the tractor trailer driver was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.
There was no word if anybody involved in the crash was wearing a seatbelt, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through Sunday, five people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. At least 879 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.
This was the new year’s first deadly crash reported in Greenville County, where at least 48 people died in crashes in 2025, according to DPS data.
