Woman killed when ATV ran off SC road and crashed is identified by coroner
One person was killed Monday when an ATV ran off a Midlands road and crashed, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Natalie Long, a 41-year-old Ward resident, is the person who died, Saluda County Coroner Angie Rita said Tuesday.
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 4:30 p.m. Monday in Saluda County, said Master Trooper Hannah Davidson, of the Highway Patrol.
A 2014 Polaris side-by-side was driving south on Old Charleston Road, according to Davidson. Near the intersection with Forest Hills Road the vehicle ran off the right side of the Old Charleston Road where it crashed into an embankment and flipped over, Davidson said.
Long died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.
Davidson said the driver was the only person in the vehicle, and no other injuries were reported.
There was no word if the driver was wearing safety restraints.
Information about what caused the vehicle to veer off the road was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.
Through Sunday, 49 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.
This was the first deadly crash of the new year in Saluda County, where four people died in 2025 wrecks, according to DPS data.
