Driver killed in multi-vehicle crash at South Carolina intersection, cops say

One person was killed late Sunday night in a crash, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The two-vehicle collision happened at about 10:30 p.m. in Spartanburg County, said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt.

A 2015 Cadillac SUV was driving on North Church Street, when it turned left onto Dakota Street, according to Bolt. A 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle was driving south on North Church Street, and it hit the front of the turning SUV, Bolt said.

The motorcycle then ran off the road, where it hit a guide wire and caught on fire, according to Bolt.

The motorcycle rider died, Bolt said.

The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the motorcycle rider.

Bolt said the SUV driver was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.

There was no word if the SUV driver was wearing a seatbelt, or if the motorcycle rider wore a helmet, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.

Through Feb. 1, at least 49 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.

This was the second deadly crash of the new year in Spartanburg County, where 74 people died in 2025 wrecks, according to DPS data.
