South Carolina man killed in late night crash ID’d by Lexington County coroner
A South Carolina man was killed late Friday night in a crash, according to the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.
Richard Wayne Neese Sr., a 60-year-old Swansea resident, died in what Coroner Margaret Fisher called an accident.
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 11:15 p.m., according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Neese was driving a 1997 Dodge pickup truck west on Crystal Springs Drive in Lexington before running off the left side of the road , then crossing over Living Waters Boulevard and hitting a mailbox and then a tree, the Highway Patrol said.
Neese, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene, Fisher said.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about what caused the pickup to veer off the road was not available, but the wreck continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.
Through Feb. 15, at least 75 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.
At least eight people have died in Lexington County crashes this year, and 40 people died in wrecks there in 2025, according to DPS data.
