Things may look a little different on this Richland County Road as the state transportation department implements a new traffic pattern, albeit temporarily.

As a part of the Carolina Crossroads, or Malfunction Junction, project, a new temporary traffic pattern on Community Road will begin on March 31, according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation. The interim design will allow workers to ease traffic congestion by constructing new interstate infrastructure between I-77, Blythewood Road and U.S. 21.

Although the Blythewood area isn’t directly connected to what motorists have regarded as “Malfunction Junction,” it’s part of the larger Carolina Crossroads project, hence the coming changes.

To aid motorists in direction, pavement markings, traffic drums and signs will be installed, the department said in a news release.

Speeds throughout the temporary alignment will be 35 mph, a news release said. Motorists are encouraged to use caution by paying attention to signs and crews when driving through the area.
