West Columbia begins upgrades to River District parking. Full closure expected
Improvements to a parking lot in West Columbia’s River District is underway, with a full closure expected for three to four days, according to a news release.
Crews, this week, began refining the lot at 420 Meeting Street to include pothole repairs, new seal coating and restriping in coordination with the property owner, the release said.
The project, which includes two phases — one for the larger portion of the lot and another for a smaller section — are part of ongoing efforts to improve accessibility and support continued growth in the River District, according to the release.
While access to the lot may be disrupted at any time during the course of improvements, a definite temporary closure is expected between March 27 and 31 as work begins in the smaller section of the lot along Meeting Street.
While work is underway, visitors are encouraged to use nearby free public parking options around the River District, including:
- Interactive Art Park & Dirt Lot at 425 Meeting Street;
- Carraway Park at 212 Hudson Street;
- West Columbia Riverwalk Amphitheater at 109 Alexander Road;
- parking along Alexander Road; and
- First Community Bank lot at 506 Meeting Street during specified evening and weekend hours.
In addition, free valet parking is available Thursdays and Fridays from 4 to 10 p.m. and Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m., the release said.
