Fiery crash in Richland County leaves 1 person dead, highway patrol says

One person died in a car crash that ended in flames, the South Carolina Highway Patrol reported.

A 2019 Ford Fiesta was driving west on Vandoval Road in Richland County on Thursday around 4:30 p.m. when the driver swerved off the road, struck a ditch and caught fire, Master Trooper Hannah Davidson said.

The driver, who was the only occupant of the car, sustained fatal injuries.

On Sunday night, 76-year-old Hopkins resident Alma D. Davis was identified as the victim by the Richland County Coroner’s Office.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
