iPhone reported crash on South Carolina road where owner died, coroner says
A South Carolina woman was killed early Tuesday morning when the pickup truck she was driving on a Midlands crashed, according to the Kershaw County Coroner’s Office.
Reese Autumn Player, a 22-year-old Bishopville resident, is the driver who died in what Coroner David West called an accident.
The single-vehicle collision happened at about 2:35 a.m. in the Camden area of Kershaw County, said Master Trooper Hannah Davidson of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Player was driving a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 east on S.C. 34, according to Davidson. Near the intersection with Favor Road the pickup lost control and flipped over multiple times, Davidson said. That’s about 2 miles from Exit 108 on I-20.
Player was ejected from the Chevy and died at the scene, according to West. At 2:36 a.m., an iPhone’s crash detection called 911 and first responders found the wreck soon after, according to the coroner’s office.
West said that Player was the only person in the Chevy pickup, and no other injuries were reported.
There was no word if she was wearing a seatbelt.
Information about what caused the pickup to lose control was not available, but the collision continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol.
Through Sunday, 277 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.
At least seven people have died in Kershaw County crashes this year, and 15 people died in wrecks there in 2025, according to DPS data.
