14-year-old South Carolina boy killed while riding bicycle, coroner says
The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported a fatal crash in Orangeburg County involving a teenager riding a bicycle. The crash happened about midnight Friday.
Jaxson E. Worthington, a 14-year-old Cordova resident, was the bicycle rider who died in what Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle call an accident.
The teen was riding a bicycle north in the southbound lane in the 1100 block of Cannon Bridge Road, officials said. A 2001 Honda sedan was driving south on the same road, near the intersection with Riley Road, according to the Highway Patrol.
The Honda sedan collided with Jaxson, who suffered massive blunt force injuries and died at the scene, the coroner’s office said.
The Highway Patrol said that the Honda driver was not hurt, and no other injuries were reported.
The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
Through May 10, at least 277 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2026, according to the state Department of Public Safety. A minimum of 914 people were killed in collisions in South Carolina in 2025, DPS data shows.
At least seven people have died in Orangeburg County crashes this year, and 31 people died in wrecks there in 2025, according to DPS data.
