One person has died following a crash involving a tractor-trailer and two cars in Lexington County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

A 2002 tractor-trailer was driving east on South Carolina Highway 6 when a 2023 Kia Rio struck it at an intersection while driving north on Jeffcoat Road around 3:50 a.m. on Wednesday, Master Trooper William Bennett said.

The tractor-trailer then veered off the right side of the road and overturned, officials said.

Then, an unknown dark-colored sedan was driving west on SC Highway 6 struck the driver of the Kia and left the crash site.

The driver of the Kia died on the scene and has not yet been publicly identified by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to a local hospital to be treated for injuries.

The incident remains under investigation by the highway patrol.
