The Midlands could be in for severe weather and storms this week. Here’s the timeline

A large swath of South Carolina, including all of the Midlands, could be in for some rough weather later this week.

According to a Monday morning briefing from the National Weather Service, there is a chance for severe weather Wednesday and into Wednesday evening.

The NWS said showers and thunderstorms are expected ahead of a cold front Wednesday.

“A few storms may become severe, producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and possibly isolated tornadoes,” the NWS briefing said.

Aside from the wind and stormy conditions, the NWS notes that downpours are likely that could lead to localized flooding in poor drainage areas.

The weather service will likely issue another briefing on Tuesday about the possible severe weather.
