‘Tornado emergency’ issued for southern SC town as dangerous system moves through

Meteorologists are urging people in Allendale, South Carolina, to take cover from a tornado.

The National Weather Service said Allendale and the nearby area is in a “tornado emergency” and a “life threatening situation” Tuesday at about 4 p.m.

People should go to the lowest interior level of their homes and take cover in bathrooms, closets or other areas without windows, the service said.

The tornado was detected at about 4 p.m. The affected area includes the towns of Fairfax, Sycamore and Ulmer.
