Lexington County school districts announce early release ahead of severe weather

All Lexington County school districts will release students early Friday ahead of severe weather expected Friday afternoon.

Lexington County made the announcement Friday, which impacts every Lexington school district. Those include Lexington One, Two, Three, Four and Lexington-Richland Five districts.

Lexington County officials referred parents to their specific school district for more information. Most schools have announced they will dismiss students one hour early because of the threat of high winds Friday afternoon.

“The threshold for operating a school bus is wind gusts of 35 mph,” a release from Lexington-Richland 5 explained.

The National Weather Service is forecasting winds between 60 and 70 miles per hour Friday.

Districts are also canceling after-school and athletic events Friday night.
