Winter storm, snow likely as SC temperatures dip, NWS says. Here’s the latest forecast
Wintry temperatures are expected in Columbia and across the state of South Carolina as the chance of snow continues to grow, according to the latest forecast.
Cold air will arrive Sunday night and last throughout the week, the National Weather Service said, with highs in the 30s and lows dipping into the teens. Wind chill will fall below 15 degrees overnight. It will be coldest Tuesday through Thursday.
The NWS has grown increasingly confident that most of South Carolina will see some snowfall. The possibility of snow will continue to increase starting Tuesday into Wednesday, with one to three inches expected to accumulate.
A “highly impactful” winter storm is also in the forecast, meteorologists said Saturday, with its highest potential south of Interstate 20. The National Weather Service warned South Carolinians of frozen pipes and dangerous conditions for those without shelter. Officials also warned drivers to use caution.
The Midlands, Lowcountry and Pee Dee regions of the state will likely see the most impact from the predicted weather next week.
The Upstate should expect less potential for snow.
