If you’re peeping out of your window in the Midlands, you may see snow flurries gently falling.

At around 8 a.m. Saturday, snow began falling across parts of the Midlands, including near the Harbison area and in Lexington. It’s the first snowfall since Jan. 22, 2025 and is expected to usher in a “historic” levels, according to the National Weather Service.

As the Midlands remain under winter storm and extreme cold warnings, 6-8 inches of snow is expected to fall all day Saturday into Sunday behind a winter system called Gianna.

Unlike snow sightings in 2025, Gianna will bring unusual wind gusts along with the flurries at about 25-30 mph, according to the NWS. And while some areas across the Midlands are seeing light snow, the pace is expected to ramp up around Saturday afternoon.
