Closings, delays in the Columbia, Midlands areas after weekend snowfall
Offices and services around the Midlands are closed as the region continues to dig out from the weekend’s historic snowfall.
Local school districts are closing schools on Monday and encouraging drivers to stay off the roads, and by late Monday were adjusting their schedules for Tuesday. Dominion Energy to keep their thermostats set at 68 degrees or lower and to only raise the heat one or two degrees at a time to prevent overtaxing the system and conserve energy.
Other local services are also suspended.
- The city of Columbia is closed on Monday due to lingering ice on the roads, including the payment center, municipal court and parking services. City parks, recreational and community centers are also closed. Monday’s scheduled trash collections will be delayed until Tuesday, and Tuesday’s pickup will be pushed back to Wednesday.
- Richland County offices are also closed on Monday. County solid waste and recycling centers will also be closed.
- Richland Library branches will remain closed Monday.
- Lexington County offices are on a two-hour delay Monday.
- West Columbia City Hall and its city parks are closed.
- Forest Acres city offices are closed.
- Town of Lexington offices will open on a delayed schedule at 11 a.m. Town parks and playgrounds will remain closed until further notice. Garbage pickup will be delayed by a day this week, but yard debris will be picked up on schedule.
- Cayce city offices are opening at 10:30 a.m. City parks will remain closed until conditions are safe to reopen.
- Chapin town offices will open at 11 a.m.
- Sumter city offices are closed Monday. Residential trash collection will operate on a delayed schedule.
- Fairfield County is closing county offices, recycling centers, recreation facilities and the county courthouse on Monday. Scheduled events for Monday are canceled.
