An air quality alert was reported by the NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC on Thursday at 4 p.m. in effect until Friday at 4 p.m. The alert is for Oconee Mountains, Pickens Mountains, Greater Oconee and Greater Pickens as well as Cherokee, Anderson, Abbeville, Laurens, Union, Greenwood, Greenville and Spartanburg counties.
"The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) has issued a Code Orange Ground Level Ozone Action Day for the Upstate region of South Carolina, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. Dominant high pressure will make sure cloud cover will be minimal, atmospheric moisture will remain relatively low, and winds will be light. These factors will allow for sufficient ozone production, compounding with weak pollutant dispersion characteristics of an already pollutant-loaded atmosphere," says the NWS.
This alert is in effect until Friday at 4 p.m.
