As winter weather moves into the Midlands, here’s a list of what is closed
As winter weather brings snow and sleet to the South Carolina Midlands, parks and libraries are closing and local students are being dismissed early.
Schools
After school disitricts initially announced a changing of schedules on Thursday, Richland 1, Richland 2, Lexington 1, Lexington 2 and Lexington-Richland 5 further adjusted their schedules to end classes 30 minutes earlier than originally planned.
Richland 1 elementary schools will dismiss at 10:30 a.m., high schools will dismiss at 11:15 a.m. and middle schools will dismiss at 12 p.m.
Richland 2 will dismiss elementary schools at 10:30 a.m., middle schools at 11:15 a.m. and high schools at 12 p.m., according to officials.
Lexington 1 elementary school students will be dismissed at 10:50 a.m.; middle school students except Gilbert will dismiss at 11:35 (Gilbert will get out at 11:45); Pelion and Gilbert high schools will get out at 11:55, while Lexington, White Knoll and River Bluff high schools will get out at 12:15.
Elementary students in Lexington 2 will get out at 11 a.m., and middle and high schools get out at 12 p.m.
Lexington-Richland 5 will dismiss intermediate and elementary schools at 11:00 a.m., middle schools release at 12:00 p.m., Spring Hill High School at 11:50 a.m. and all other high schools at 12:05 p.m. Afterschool activities and childcare are canceled and athletic events will be rescheduled.
The University of South Carolina announced it would be closing its Columbia campus by noon.
Government buildings
Gov. Henry McMaster ordered that state government offices in Richland and Lexington counties close at noon on Friday. Other state government offices will follow county government closure decisions, he said.
The Richland Library said that all locations would close by 10:30 a.m. on Friday and reopen at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Lexington Town Hall will close at noon.
Riverbanks Zoo closed at 10 a.m. on Friday. The South Carolina State Museum plans to close at noon.
Parks in Lexington, West Columbia and Cayce are also closed.
All of Prisma’s medical practices closed at noon on Friday.
Businesses and restaurants
Some local restaurants and breweries are also adjusting hours.
- The War Mouth is closing for the dinner shift on Friday.
- Columbia Craft will close early at 6 p.m.
- Drake’s Duck-In will close at 5 p.m.
- Goat’s will be closed.
- Lizard’s Thicket will close at 3 p.m.
- Hunter-Gatherer Brewery will be closed.
- Hazelwood Brewing Company will be closed.
Barnes and Noble on Garners Ferry Road will closee at 4 p.m.
