Did we just see the worst Super Bowl halftime show ever?

On the Super Bowl

The Super Bowl halftime show was the worst halftime show ever, and the sponsors who paid for it deserve an immediate refund!

On Canada geese

Why can’t South Carolina do something about the federally protected but nasty, toxic and destructive Canada geese? Colorado and Maryland allow for these wild, overpopulated and despised birds to be harvested in order to feed their needy citizens. So why can’t South Carolina follow their guidelines?

It is insulting that our state has such an extremely short time period to legally take down these varmints, particularly when you consider their massive population and out-of-control numbers. Our homeowners association maintains a small retention pond, and it is inundated from January through July with these fighting, landscape-destroying, defecating menaces.

It’s time to start repealing the antiquated laws that have protected the Canada geese and allowed it to become such a nuisance.

On Hunter Biden

A recent letter writer denigrated Hunter Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, by stating that the younger Biden is unqualified to serve on a corporate board. But the fact is that Hunter Biden graduated from both Georgetown University and Yale Law School, and he also has years of experience in the finance and banking industry.

In short, Hunter Biden is supremely well-qualified to sit on a corporate board — and he has never been accused of misconduct or engaging in illegal activities. If only we could say the same about the person who is currently occupying the White House.

On Brian Winters

I enjoyed reading Andrew Ramspacher’s recent article on USC great Brian Winters, who helped put South Carolina on the basketball map as one of legendary Coach Frank McGuire’s notable recruits during the 1970s.

Winters played during a time when freshmen didn’t play on varsity teams, yet he went on become a USC basketball legend and an NBA All-Star whose number was retired by the Milwaukee Bucks decades ago.

And that raises this question: Why hasn’t Winters’ number been retired by USC? It is well overdue.

USC men’s basketball head coach Frank Martin has done a great job of reaching to the program’s past stars, so I hope that Winters’ jersey will soon hang from the rafters alongside those of Alex English and Kevin Joyce.

On voting

Some 60 years ago the path to obtain voting rights was often met with vicious resistance and abject opposition. Today such resistance and opposition may not be as violent as it was then, but it still exists in many forms.

There are local, regional and national organizations that are providing resources, information and education to increase the levels of voter interest and participation. While these avenues can all be successful in increasing voter participation, it comes down to voters having the sense of accountability to do their civic duty and vote.

We should all decide to lead and communicate with others about the need to vote — rather than allow ourselves and others to remain unheard and uncounted.

On the D.C. Democrats

A case could be made that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democratic U.S. Reps. Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler have been on a three-year crime spree: all four have been working to rob the American people of their hard-earned tax dollars in order to pursue their collective vendetta against President Donald Trump.

Their baseless accusations that Trump has committed wrongdoing have all been a costly sham. It has been evident all along that they had real evidence of high crimes or misdemeanors being committed by Trump — and that has been an affront to any normal-thinking individual who knows right from wrong.

I call Schumer, Pelosi, Schiff and Nadler the Four Riders of the Apocalypse; all four of them conspired to undermine our government by fabricating false evidence against the president.
