President Donald Trump continues to keep his promises to the people of South Carolina
They said he’d never run; he did. They said he couldn’t win a primary; he won the very first one in the nation.
But even after all that back in 2016, the so-called political experts said Donald Trump couldn’t win the South Carolina Republican Party primary. Yet Trump did exactly that, earning the decisive victory that put him on the path to winning the Republican nomination and eventually the presidency of the United States.
During his first campaign visit to the Palmetto State four years ago, Trump took the unconventional route of speaking without teleprompters, lambasting “all-talk, no action politicians” and publicly revealing Sen. Lindsey Graham’s personal phone number. It was during this visit that our ground team in South Carolina — dubbed “South Carolina Team Trump” — knew that his candidacy had changed the political landscape we once knew.
Aside from his unconventional approach, Trump’s message was filled with big promises for furthering the economic and military strength of our country. He promised to put a stop to illegal immigration, and he made a commitment to all South Carolinians that he would bring back the jobs that had left South Carolina for overseas opportunities.
At the time, many of us felt as though we had heard all this before from presidential candidates. And it’s true that when we first heard Trump make those promises four years ago, many of us wondered the same thing: “Would he actually keep them?”
It’s four years later and luckily for South Carolina — which awaits a Democratic Party primary that sees a lifelong career politician (Joe Biden) and a socialist (Bernie Sanders) battle to lead the Democrats to defeat in November — the results are in. President Donald Trump is not only keeping his promises to South Carolinians, he’s ushering in a new era of pride for the Palmetto State.
In short, South Carolina has enjoyed an economic boom under Trump’s leadership. Working hand-in-hand with Gov. Henry McMaster, the pro-growth policies of the Trump administration have helped create more than 100,000 new jobs in South Carolina — and they have resulted in the state’s unemployment rate dropping to one of its lowest points in history.
On top of our thriving economy, President Trump continues to protect the homeland from threats abroad. Despite ongoing opposition from Democrats like Biden, Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, Trump has brought illegal immigration to an all-time low; meanwhile, our brave men and women in uniform have eliminated ISIS and taken out several leaders of dangerous terrorist organizations.
The reality is that even though he must constantly deal with Democrats who have spent their lives serving in public office, President Trump continues to deliver on his promises to the people of South Carolina.
