Could a face mask restrict your breathing? Maybe. But COVID-19 will definitely do it

On face masks

I for one wear a face mask every time I’m out in public. Why? Because I care about the people in my life, and I would hate to be responsible for anyone getting sick from COVID-19.

And here’s my response to those who say they won’t wear a mask because it restricts their breathing:

“So does COVID-19.”

On hackers

The State recently ran a Page One story with the headline “Hackers play porn during virtual graduation meeting.”

It was perhaps the most ridiculous story I’ve seen in a long time.

I’m not the type to scream “fake news” at any story or headline that I don’t like, but with all of the important news happening right now I’m surprised that something that affected 40 people — in a state of 5 million — was considered worthy enough to be a Page One story.

And even if the issue of cybersecurity made the story worthy of front-page coverage, The State could have easily rewritten the headline to exclude the word “porn.” I expected better from The State newspaper.

On Trump

You can add me to the list of South Carolinians who are satisfied with how President Donald Trump’s administration has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Trump’s early reaction to the crisis was reassuring, and he took proper and decisive actions as more information became available. The president’s leadership skills and business experience allowed him to rally the manufacturing and medical communities to find solutions more quickly than many thought possible.

I look forward to seeing how President Trump leads our nation toward our continued recovery throughout the remainder of this year — and beyond.

On Kershaw

Many thanks to the Kershaw County Council for developing a small business grant program, and for addressing the problems of small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kershaw County’s little retail shops, eateries and services all operate on small margins, yet we play important roles in our communities. We all help each other, and now our county government is helping us. It is a blessing.
