Letters: Save the bees
Not only are honey bees dying from colony collapse disease, but now governments are killing them with the indiscriminate use of pesticides (“Collateral damage: Zika spraying kills honey bees,” Sept. 3).
People don’t realize how important bees are to our food production. Without bee pollination, many fruits and vegetables would never be produced.
It’s unclear what the Dorchester County beekeepers can do about the killoff — one beekeeper lost 2.5 million bees on the spot. One recourse is the courts, although that won’t replace the bees. Another would be better warning from whatever agency is responsible before spraying, so the hive owners can protect these very valuable insects
