Letters: Trump still sore about roast

On April 30, 2011, President Obama roasted Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. You can see it on YouTube. (Search “Trump White House Correspondents’ Dinner.”) It was just funny. Roasts are like that. Everyone was laughing, except Donald Trump.

Since Trump lets no perceived criticism go unanswered, of course he’s been attacking Obama and his legacy ever since, including questioning whether he was born in the United States and thus his legitimacy to be the president. He launched his campaign on the birtherism lie.

When he announced recently that, “President Barack Obama was born in the United States. Period,” he actually had to look down at his notes. And then he left the stage not willing to answer any questions from the press conference he called for his “big announcement.”

I think Trump decided on that night in 2011 that he would run for president — to get even.
