Letters: Women much worse off than blacks

I’m tired of the attention given to the multimillion-dollar football player who won’t stand for “The Star-Spangled Banner” because of the mistreatment of the blacks and other people of color in America.

Colin Kaepernick should have been a woman. I am a 76-year-old woman, and all my life women have begged, scratched, prayed, fought, worked and clawed just to be on an even keel with men. Our history goes back longer than any other group of people on the planet, and we still have miles to go.

Mr. Kaepernick might look like a hero today, but just wait. When his contract comes up again and TV advertisers should call but don’t, he will see what happens. He’s an embarrassment to his teammates, coaches, fans and all Americans who know exactly what that song means.
