Letters: Most people can’t attend daytime meetings

Legislative hearings are sometimes packed, but nearly everyone in attendance is a lobbyist or other person who is paid to be there.

I noticed that the legislative panel studying possible changes to the State Retirement System scheduled its most recent meeting at 10 a.m. on a Tuesday. While I imagine legislators routinely hold hearings during their work day, it precludes those of us who are also at work from sharing our thoughts in person.

I don’t expect legislators to work until midnight, but it might be nice to schedule a more convenient time for constituents to speak.
